The Academy was started in 2016 as the club identified a very real gap in providing children below the age of 8 with quality coaching without the pressure of being thrown into competitive football straight away. We tend to pull our children from the immediate Wateringbury area, Mereworth and Kings Hill.
Invariably children can expect to train in the academy for a full season before joining a formal side but we do play informal friendlies when we can so the children get accustomed to the cut and thrust of competitive football. We meet on Saturday mornings between 10am and 11.30am for training on the Wateringbury Playing fields which must have one of the most beautiful outlooks of any ground in the area, if not Kent.
We’re firm believers in developing base football skills first which if the children get thrown into
competitive football too early they struggle to develop. Football is very much a confidence game and we find by the time the academy graduates are ready to form an actual team they are more than ready and perform very well.
Our Academy is run by FA Level 1 coaches as are our formal teams and this is something we are very proud of. Numbers are also capped at a maximum of 20 children who range in age from 6 up to 8 coming from in essence primary school years 2 and 3.
At the end of each year we look to establish an U9 team from within the academy from all children who are aged 8 as of 31st August. Currently we’re full members of the Crowborough Mini Soccer League and
If you believe in learning the basics first in a reassuring, safe and family style club then we are for you.
